THE BATTERIES
TROPHIES PRESENTED
There was a full parade of sth, 15th, and 19th Batteries at tho Drill Hall, Buckle street, last evening, when the trophies won during the year were presented by Major-General .R. Young; G.0.C., N.Z. Military forces.
After inspecting the parade, which was in command of Lieut.-Colonel G. Lyon, General Young addressed the troops. He said he was very pleased with the turnout, and the appearance of the men especially was good. 'Referring to the work of the year, General Young commented favourably upon the attendances at the camps. He congratulated the 15th Battery on again winning the Hudson Cup for the third year in- succession. The standard of training and efficiency had been maintained.
The list of trophy winners is. as follows:—
sth Battery.—Best" section (loft section), Lieut. L. P. Turner; best sub-section (O), Sergt. Neale; most meritorious work in camp, Bdr. E. S. Nicol; most improved n.c.0., Sergt. Neale; best driver, Bdr. .E. R. Austin; best gun-layer, Bdr. S. G. Cutts; best gunner, L/Bdr. B. J. Larkm; best signaller, Bdr. G. H. Fraser. 15th Battery.—Most efficient section (E.L. and E.D.), Lieut. J. Hall-Kenney; best 6in gun detachment, A/2 Sergt. J. Doyland; best squad in battery (signallers), Sergt P. 0^ Caldwell; winners tabloid athletics (E.L. and E.D.), Sergt. D. C. Morgan; rifle championship belt, Sergt. IX C. Morgan;,best range taker, L/Bdr. E. V. Bellman; beat signaller, L/Bdr. K. Kirkculdie; best Gin gunner, P. J. Hawker; best 12pdr gunner, L. T. Cornwall; best Lewis gunner, Bdr. M. R. Jackson; best electrician, H. W. Wickham. 10th Battery.—Best section (headquarters section), Lieut. Powles; best sub-sec- ! tion'(A), Sergt. Maxwell; best gunner, J. Brodie; best gun-layer, O. Miller; most i improved n.c.0., Sergt. R. Packard; best | specialist, Bdr. K. Austin; best tractor driver, Bdr. Smith. The trophy for special efficient service was awarded to B.S.M. Cook.
During the evening, General Young presented the N.Z. Territorial Service Medal to Captain It. G. Anderson, of 19th Battery. _______^^^^_
