UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
The Red Cross Unemployment Committee held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, Mr. J. 1., Goldsmith presiding.
Reports were received upon investigations made into cases which had appeared before the committee. Letters of introduction to firms had been given to applicants and all received temporary work. As a result of letters to the various men's clubs of Wellington a large quantity of. men's clothing had been received and sorted by the L-adiets' Auxiliary. Ten new cases presented themselves for assistance, and everything possible was done -■ for them.
The committee desired to express its thanks to all those who had generously sent in clothing and notified odd jobs. By far ami away the majority of cases appearing before the committee were genuinely seeking employment and were deserving o£ the utmost consideration. Hope was expressed that as the winter months progressed more odd jobs woiild be mad* available so that those finding difficulty in securing employment, particularly those physically handicapped, might be able to earn a little from light vocations and so preserve their self-respect. Inquiries telephoned to the secretary (22-574) would be promptly attended to.
