FRUIT PRODUCER TO CONSUMER
.In fruit growing districts outside of Auckland growers do a fair turnover in direct sales to motorists buying case lots at-prices that pay both producer and consumer. This business is rather resented by retail traders, but it is difficult to see how it can be stopped. In Sydney the Fruit Growers' Federation has been highly successful, in selling direct to consumers, oranges being the principal fruit for dispersal in this way. At the Central Railway Station, Sydney, alone, for the weekend only, 10th to 12th May, SOO bushels were sold retail at the station. Motorists over the week-end bought huge quantities of second-crop oranges in the- Hills dis-trict-around-.Sydney- aud<in. Gosford area, .frequently 'obtaining1 up to 40' for a shilling.
