WELLINGTON COLLEGE

OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION '

That the Wellington College Old Boys' Association has continued in the year just ended the progress which marked previous years is shown by the annual report for the year ended 31st March. The financial position of your association is I very satisfactory (states the report). Tho credit balance of the general fund at 31st March was £143 17s 3d, as against £112 Os lid at the end of the previous year. A further sum of £100 remains on fixed deposit. It is gratifying to report a marked improvement during the current year in receipts from subscriptions. Old Boys' Day again proved a great success, both socially and financially. The secondary schools' reunion was a very large and representative gathering. The joint committee kindly ' donated to the College Ground Fund £10 6s 2d, the surplus from this function. The amount invested in the War Memorial Fund now stands at £3G9 Is 4d, including £200 Inscribed Stock. Part of this fund is being expended on four flags, the Union Jack and the White, Blue, and Red Ensigns, which will be hung in the alcoves above the bronze Memorial Tablets in the Memorial Hall. During the year old boys entertained his Honour Sir Michael Myers at luncheon in honour of his being appointed Chief Justice. The luncheon was well attended by old boys. . _ . A garden party was held in glorious weather on 20th March. While not attended by nearly as many old boys as might have been wished,; it. was well supported by parents. The occasion was graced by, the presence of Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe, and the proceedings were formally opened by- the Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup. In the evening a vory successful cabaret was held in the new gymnasium. The proceeds of these functions was £230, which is to bo expended on ground improvement. The school obtained very good results in the November and December examina I tions of 1929. The results for the University Entrance Scholarship Examination probably constitute a record, the second, fourth, and sixth places being'gained Ly pupils of the Sixth Form, while another pupil came first in the University National Scholarship Examination. The pupil who came first for New Zealand this year was second last year when a pupil 01 Wellington College. . , The Inter-College Football Tournament was held last year on our own grounds. The games wore excellently contested, the college fifteen finally proving the victors. The Old Boys' Football Club had a successful season, nine teams playing in the competitions. The junior A team is to »c congratulated on winning the junior championship with an unbeaten record. By virtue of this performance it was awarded the Dr. Elliott Cup for one year, lhe senior A team's showing was not quite up to expectations, but this was partly accounted for by the loss of some of its prominent members through casualties and transfers. The club was glad" of the opportunity to assist financially in the reerection of the college gymnasium on a site adjacent to the baths. The following members gained representative, honours:— Senior: C. Claridge, D. Dustin, J. Lamason, C. M:'Pherson, C. Riishbrook. Junior: F. Aitcheson, W. Hawker, M. Wright. Fourth: H. Avery, P.
