' . *Th 6 most important amendments made by the House of Lords deal with miners' working hours and with the compulsory amalgamation of collieries. The first provides for the spread over of the working time of miners, permitting agreements for a forty-five, hours' week or ninety hours a fortnight, instead of. the fixed working day of_7J hours, and the second for substituting the Board of Trade for ad hoc commissioners as the authority to be responsible for promoting colliery amalgamation schemes.
