WINTER SHOW

FULL SPACE ASSURED

COMPLETION OF PREMISES

Thc/exccutive of the Wellington Win ter Show Association met last night, Mr. C. J.. B. Norwood presiding.. Applications- for space for the .next exhibition, said the chairman, were so satisfactory already that there was no question of not letting all the space. The expenditure, on the grounds, Mr. Norwood said, had been gradually decreasing as the work proceeded. They had now only six men at work, and shortly these would be reduced to three. It was hoped to secure the authority of Parliament early in the session to enable the grounds to be completed, ' Early authority would be needed, 'in view of the extent of the . work of concreting, fencing, seating, etc. Otherwise the work would not be finished in time. At present the Finance Committee could not support the recommendation to enclose and cover the tea-rooms, estimated to cost £227, continued Mr. Norwood. The finances did noT; warrant the expenditure in the circumstances. Several calls, one at least unexpected, had been made on them. They would have to put in fire escapes, which would 'cost £210, to comply with the conditions laid down by the inspector of buildings. Having regard to this expenditure, the Finance Committee thought it better to await the results of the next exhibition. The Finance Committee . agreed entirely with the recommendations of the executive from the practical point of view, but felt that the matter might wait.
