A romantic story is being associated with JVL Alain Gerbault's coming departure for a "permanent residence" in tho Pacific. Friends state that it is becauso Mile. Lenglen has given him the answer for which ho has waited five years—a decisive "No;," Suzanne was evolving toward her zenith when rumours linked tho couple with an engagement. "Suzanne asked for five years to consider.
Gerbault set out on the Firecrest for a voluntary; exile- in the South Seas, a voyage which is now famous. To-day Suzanne- appears absorbed only in her new business as a designer of sports garments. Gerbault's determination to leave civilisation is accepted as an admission of Suzanne's refusal.
M. Gerbault returned to France in July of last year after a cruise around the world in the 10-ton cutter Firecrest. On his return from that lonely voyage the "Petit'Parisien" declared that he had been completely conquered •by the beauty of the Pacific islands, and that it Svas his intention to have a new boat built, one smaller than the Firecrest, and to return and spend the rest of his days cruising in the Pa'ciiie.
