SWIFTS v. TECHNICAL COLLEGE OLD BOYS.
A very game was, played at Wakefield Park .on Saturday.'.between Swifts and the Technical College Old- Boys. Both teams were playing two men short, and in the case of Swifts, owing to the absence of regular players, four reserve men. were playing. The general unpleasantness of playing conditions-was the main factor in spoiling the game. ■
The teams were:— < Technical College Old Boys: Redmond, Bognuda, Edwards, Raxworthy, Stewart, Gates,. Wooleseroft, Torrington, Klee. Swifts: Forbes, Gibson, ■ Bloomfield, Smith, Southern, Bradford, O'Shea ■ (i.), Dennis, O'Shea (ii.), Kirkwood. ■ ; The first half of the game contained a great deal of up and down field play, where neither side proved to'be definitely superior. However, as,a sequel to a melee in front of the Swifts' .goal mouth, Raxworthy kicked a ball which Forbes failed to repulse." , A similar mix-up in the mud near the Swifts' goal: mouth also had a sequei when Torrington, despite the heaviness of the ball and the slippery nature of the ground, brought the ball before the goal and skilfully headed it past the goalie, j An'unexpected'-goal'was scored for Swifts by O'Shea, a brother to Swifts' regular player, who had just entered the field to take the place of one of Swifts? absent men. ' At Half-time' the score was: lechmeal College Old Boys 2, Swifts 1. „ When the' game resumed .a light but soaking rain was falling. It was now the' Technical. College Old Boys-turn to play into the cold southerly, wind. The players were apparently stiff with the cold, and consequently the game appeared to the bystander to be dead slow. However, Bradford, Kirkwood, and Smith on several occasions played good football—good in the fact that it was remarkably accurate considering the bad state of the ground and the dead weight of- the balj. The last goal to be scored was by Wooleseroft who, after a long kick down field secured the ball, having easily evaded Gibson, Swifts' only back, scored a goal with a point blank shot. The.game ended with the scores: Technical College Old Boys 3, Swifts 1. - ' ■
