CHINCHILLA MEAT EXPORT.
ThoTSTew Zealand Fur Board, Auckland, reports that definite arrangements have been,made with the trade at Auckland to pay 9d per lb dressed weight for Chinchilla carcasses. The rabbits will be skinned by the producer, and sent _in wrapped in waterproof papers. Taking the .average live weight as 61b, the net weight after removal of pelt and offal may be roughly 31b, giving a carcass value of 2s 3d. This price is being paid by freezing works for Chinchilla carcasses for trial export frozen to America, where Chinchilla meat is in great demand. These are going- forward immediately. Chinchilla meat is recognised by the trade as a delicacy of high value, of slightly greater nutrition than spryig chicken. This new article 'is expected to go from the shops chiefly to hospitals and high-class hotels and restaurants until the supplies are more plentiful.
