AUCKLAND, This Day.
His intention to resign the position of Prime' Minister was conveyed by Sir Joseph Ward to the Eight Hon. J. Q. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, immediately the public announcement was decidec] on at Eotorua on Thursday. The Prime Minister's telegram stated: "I desire to inform you that, acting on medical advice, I have decided to tender my resignation as Prime Minister. I take this opportunity of expressing to you my sincere thanks for the courtesy and kindness extended to me by yourself, especially during the period of my illness. Kind regards." Mr. Coates replied yesterday as fol-
lows: "In thanking you for your courteous telegram acquainting me of your decision, and also for your generoiis remarks concerning my attitude toward yourself, it is with sincere regret I learn from you that your health has not improved, as I and all those associated with mo would wish and much desire. I would like you to accept my best wishes for your speedy improvement, and I hope to sou you restored to normal health very soon. Kind regards."
