SEPARATION ADVOCATED

United Press Association—By Electric Teli-

graph—Copyright. (Received 17th May, noon.) ' HOBART This Day. The Government and citizens are indignant at the evidence given recently by the Commonwealth Statistician before the Public Accounts Committee to the effect that Tasmania is down at the heels and is unable as a separate State to support herself and therefore should be tacked on to Victoria. The Tasmanians are collecting information concerning their liabilities to the Federal Government and dis- \ abilities under the Federation with! the object of making out a case for peaceful detachment from the Commonwealth. The Premier, Mr. M'Phee, declares thai; the majority of Tasmania's troubles ,are due to the Navigation Laws, to being bound by Federal' awards, and to being compelled to keep step with legislation designed, to meet the needs of trie larger States. .
