COMPANY'S PETITION
TANNERIES COMMISSION'
The Commisison set up to deal with the petition presented by Woolston Tanneries, Ltd., concluded its sitting yesterday afternoon in the Supreme Court. The company sought r?Hef. jn rvspect of income-tax paid, during the period of. the embargo on tho export of hides, which was removed in 1920. It was alleged that the company, working in conjunction with the Board of Trade, had been unable to make provision for reserves during the embargo to meet subsequent losses, "and had incurred serious losses through rndeavouring to stabilise prices of leather for the board after the embargo was.lifted. The members of the Commission were their Honours 'Mr. Justice Reed (chairman), Mr. Justice Ostler, and Mr. Justice Blair. Mr. A. Gray, X.C.. with him Mr. AY. N. Matthews, appeared for flip comp.inv. aiul Mr. V. R Cnofcr, with him Mr. C. H. T.n Inr. ol the Crown Law Office, lor the Crown.
