IMPROVING MEAT MARKET.
Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London agents, dated 16th day:—Frozen meat quotations (prices on a ''delivered" basis*, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc.): North Island Down lambs, 28-361b B%d,,per lb, 36-421b 7%d; best North Island crossbred lambs, 28-361b B%d, 36-421b 7 3-8 d; North Island, second quality lambs, average 30-311b 7%d; best North Island wether sheep, under 481b 5%d, 48-561 bsd, 56-641b 4%d, 64-721b 4d. North Island ewea, under 481b 3 5-Sd, 48-561b 3%d, SC-641b 3 l-Bd, 64-721b 2 7-8 d; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160-2201b, 4 3-Bd. As compared with last week's quotations, North Island Down lamb l-8d per lb higher, best North Island crossbred lamb, 28-361b, %d per lb higher, 36----421b l-8d per lb higher: best North Island wether under 561b 1-od per lb higher, others unchanged; North Island ewes, 56-721b, l-8d per lb higher, others' unchanged. The position is improving slowly all round. The' Bank of New Zealand Produce Department has received the following advice from . its London office as 'at close of business this week:—Frozen Meat: Prices for wethers have apparently reached bottom. There is a little better demand. There is a.steady demand for ewes. The demand for lamb "is improving, the market being firm with an upward tendency. Trade in beef is slow. Wethers, light 4%d to 5%d per lb, heavy 3»4d to 4d; ewes, 2%d to 3%d; lambs, 2's 8d to S%d, B's VAd to 7%d, 4's 7d to 7%d, seconds 7%d to 8d; ox hinds, 5%d to 5%d: ox fores, 3%d to 3%d; cow hinds, 4%il to 4%dj cow fores', 3d to 3',4d.
