MORE WARS OF THE ROSES
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Comparisons are often1 _ odious, .which is the case when the writer of "Topics of the Day" in his exuberance compares Griminett with Rhodes.'. How many thousands ..of your adult readers do not know that Rhodes was scattering the oreat batsmen of the 'world thirty yoars ago aDd in the last century ? : . Also, in. this match, Rhodes-was bowling against Australia's strongest .batsmen, while- Grimmett was opposed by a county side. All credit to Grimmctt and other bowlers who have, taken all the ten wickets of a county side, but let us wait and see if. he can rout' England's Test batsmen as Rhodes did- the Australian Test men,, near to thirty years ago.—l am, etc., WfitlTE ROSE., [No invidious comparison was made between Griinmett and Rhodes. Rhodes.was merely mentioned as indicating that a great bowler, using the wicket after it had become worse, did not equal the earlier.figures of Grimmett on the same wic-] ket —wherefore the Grimmet feat must be conceded to be a bowler's performance rather thari.a wicket performance.—Ed.]
