URGED TO RESUME
NOVEMBER COMPROMISE
LEADERS AND MINERS
(Received 14th May, 10 a.m.) ' . ' - .SYDNEY, This Day. Miners' officials informed, aggregate meetings that the Miners' Federation would be faced with a financial crisis unless the- men resumed, work on the November 'compromise terms. Contributions ' from other unions had fallen off to such an1 extent that food relief
payments could not be maintained. The speakers referred to the possibility of a stampede and debacle with the consequent smashing up of the Federation. The question whether the miners will return to work on the owners' terms will be definitely decided about Thurs-, day, at aggregate meetings in various parts of the northern coalfields. ,Mr. D. Davies, general secretary of the Miners' Federation, has received a telegram from the Federal Treasurer, Mr. E. G. Theodore, containing an offer by the Commonwealth Government.of £100,000' for the repatriation of excess miners, conditional on a settlement of the coal dispute. It is believed that
thigi offer will go a long way toward •getting the-miners' assent-to acceptance of the owners' terms.
