A low-pressure wave crossing southern New Zealand last night has been responsible for strong north-west winds in and south of Cook Mrait, and scattered rainfall in the western half of the South Island and about Foveaux Strait. In the eastern districts of the South Island and over most of the North Island the weather has continued to be fair to fine. Temperatures have been mild everywhere.
