ROME AND MALTA
VATICAN'S OBJECTION
INTERFERENCE WITH CHURCH
(Received 12th May, 11 a.m.) ROME, 11th May. The Vatican's objection to the Maltes-e Constitutional Party, it is understood, extends only so far as the party is Lord Strickland's instrument. The Pope is not concerned about politics, but has a deep regard for the Church's interests, which, it is felt, are menaced by the Premier's policy affecting age-old religions customs, which he desires to northernise and formalise.
