ADMIRAL BYRD
AHEAD OF HIS' SHIPS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, Bth May.
Advice received by Messrs. H.L. TapIcy and Co. states that the Antarctic supply ships, City of New York , and. Eleanor Boiling, en routo from Dunedin. to America, were yesterday between Tahiti and Panama, the City of New York being in tow of the steamer. On Tuesday afternoon, the vessels were 1270 miles E.N.E. of Disappointment Island, and making slow progress.* They then had approximately 2500 miles to cover on the voyage to the Panama panal. The present position- of tbe supply ships indicates that they are not likely to reach Panama until some days after the Kangitiki, on which Admiral Byrd is travelling. '
It is Admiral Byrd's intention to complete his journey to New York by the flagship of the expedition. . ;
