UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
A meeting of the Unemployment Relief Committee was held at Red Cross headquarters, Dixon street, Mr. J. I. Goldsmith occupying the chair. It was reported that since last meeting nine applications for employment and assistance had been made. Seven of these had been temporarily placed, and the committee was cloing what it possibly could to md vacancies for the remainder. Special letters had boon addressed to the various clubs in Wellington, asking the co-operation ot their members by notifying any work available, and sending in clothing, particularly men's wearing apparel. Eleven new cases made application for assistance. .Many of them we're in need of clothing, and were referred to the Ladies Ued Cross Auxiliary, one special case' of distress investigated being a family ot eiglit children suffering from shortage ot blankets. These were supplied. The committee thanks tnose who telephoned the office offering temporary work, and those who had sent parcels of clothes. Both the work. and the clothing . had proved of great value in a number of cases. The society will be glad: to receive information of further light .work .suited to cases suffering some handicap:' A message- to the secretaisv telephone 22-574, will be promptly attended to. Care is always taken to send a deserving type of case along. •
