"Last night, just as we had settled ' down round tho warm fire, we heard the siren of the fire engine. We ( jumped up from our seats and went , outside. At first wo could not hear it, then it came nearer and nearer and went right past our place. Just down tho road it stopped. Wo could see no smoke, which set our excitement higher.
