GOOD FRIDAY

MOTOR-TRIPPERS' EXODUS ' BAYS WELL PATRONISED The fine, weather with 'which the Easter holidays opened yesterday was greatly appreciated by both young and old, .and more especially by the large number of motor trippers, who, unable to leave the city on Thursday, made up for it by making an early morning start on Good Friday. The heavily-laden condition, of the luggage-carriers at the back, a tent-pole projecting here and there, and tho bulging canvas bags stretching along the off sides of many of the cars (what a huge amount can be stowed away in those-bags!), showed that a considerable proportion of the trippers were setting forth on extended tours. ■ Easter eggs in great variety and no less great proportion—from the hardboiled hen's egg, dyed in tho "many colours" of Joseph's coat, to the elaborate chocolate confections adorned with downy chicks, or fearful and wonderful rabbits, and an ccasional egg found in a "mare's nest."—delighted , the hearts of the youngsters; while the oftproven charms of the hot-cross bun were not forgotten, and the stowagecapacity of many a growing boy or girl once more interested, and it may bo in some cases even alarmed, their fond parents. ' The usual Easter services were held at the churches in the city and suburbs. The bays around Wellington were crowded by pleasure-seekers. The un.usually warm weather for this time.of year tempted not a few to take what will be for, most of them, no doubt, the last "dip in the'briny" this season.
