OFFICER FAREWELLED
MR. P. B. B. NICHOLS Mr. P. B. B. Nichols, who has re-' pi-esentecl the British Foreign Office iv New Zealand' for the past two years under the system inaugurated through a decision of the Imperial Conference, will return to England next week. On Thursday afternoon he was farewelled at a gathering of Ministerial private secretaries and departmental heads at Parliament House. In presenting Mr. Nichols with two cases of pipes, Mr. F. D. Thomson (head of the Prime Minister's Department) voiced the regvet of those present that Mr. Nichols was leaving, and spoke appreciatively of the consultative work he had carried out while'attached to the Prime Minister's Department. There was jio doubt that his return to England would be a severe loss to the New Zealand Government. It was the general hope that Mr. Nichols would some day return to the Dominion. In acknowledging the' gift, Mr. Nichols said he had never left any, country with deeper feelings of regret, and he hoped that at some future time he would be able to pay another visit to the Dominion. He said he had been greatly impressed by the scenery and potentialities of the country, and he would advise all his friends to visit New Zealand. The opportunity was also taken to farewell Mr. J. W: Collins, who is about to leave to take up the position of, New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Canada.
