EMPIRE GAMES "EIGHT"
(To the Editor.) Sh% —Can you spare me a portion of your valuable space in order to inquire why a start was not made over a month ago to raise the extra £800 necessary to send the rowing men to the Empire Games. As the rowing authorities have assured us that they have excellent material, and that they are confident that if a crew goes to the Games, it will win, the other1 sports bodies have generously foregone their claim to any share of Canada's grant of £1000. It therefore behoves the rowing authorities to look alive and begin to find the extra money. So far, however; over a month has been absolutely wasted, and it looks as if much more time will be wasted before an appeal is made for the funds. More than £800 will be' required as the selectors have selected 12 men instead of 10 to go into preliminary training, after which the final selection of 10 will be made; and this, of course, will entail considerable extra expense. This is rowing's opportunity, and it is high time that a start was made to get the necessary finance, because if~they do not get a team away this time, they will never get another such opportunity.—l am, etc., J WIN FORN.Z.
