Australia aspires 4 to do its own talkiemachine manufacture and to produce its own .."100 per cent/ films. It is reported that the Small Aniis Factory at Lithgow, New South Wales, has obtained a. contract from the Western Electric Company to make talkie "projection machines. This will mean the re-engagement of a number of skilled operatives who were retrenched in July. The Munitions Supply Board is opposed to extension of the establishment's operations to cover additional outside orders, but the Minister of Defence (Mr. Green) during his visit to the factory in December assured a deputation that every effort would be made to manufacture articles which are now imported. Meanwhile the making of machine-guns, pistols, etc., is proceeding. Rifle manufacture lias been ■ suspended since 30th June. "' ' ■,", ' ... -.'■'.
