SPEEDWAY CONTESTS

FINAL MEETING TO-NIGHT. One of the attractions for the holidays is the Speedway final, to bo held at the Kilbiruie Stadium to-night, when, in addition to the local talent, • there will be visiting riders of note. The meeting is the last of the season, and every effort has been made to provide for broadsiding at its best. F. Pearce, the great Australian rider, will mako an attempt to lower the world's record for a cinder track, and will also compete in other events, one of which will be a special short-limit handicap with Pearce, Kilmister, Mattson, and Wilkinson all on scratch. Mattson (Auckland) holds tho New: Zealand championship, and he is to appear also,in a special match contest with Kilmister and Wilkinson. At Auckland this week Kilmister. showed a return to his best form, and beat Mattson. The- Great Easter Handicap will be another event, of note to-night, and in this there will be keen competition for the Marshall Rose Bowl, for which Harvie, Tonks, Blair, and Grove are equal. The handicap for these riders to-night • are: Harvie (2see), Tonks (lsec), Bla. ir (3sec), and Grove (3sec). Others still have a chance of-drawing level;with these riders, and in the event of a tie the deciding contest will be held tonight. _ The Clark-Morris Cup competition is also to end to-night, and for this Kilmister is the leader. Selected second division riders will contribute to the, programme, which should provide thrills in plenty. Occasion will be taken to farewell Kilmister, who is leaving for England next week.
