So short tliis leller is going lo be . . .-.- just the merest apology of a letter. For' ihe^Birds have stolen the Ring this week . . . pigeons, pheasants, and moreporks and gulls . ..' . the shy bellbird and the sweet tui . . • and the little gutter-urchin of a sparrow. And they are all about me, above me and around me . . . so that Fairiel is hidden behind their cuddling wings. But I'll come again to you next week, Elves ._' . .when all these bits of happiness have flown away and away . . . Happy, happy days! .
