AUSTRALIAN WORKERS

DETAINED AT VANCOUVER

(Received 29th March, 1 p.m.) VANCOUVER, 28th March. Eight Australian workers, arriving hero by the Aorangi to establish in Ontario a farm implement plant for the H. V. M'Kay firm, have been detained by the immigration authorities on the grounds that they constitute contract labour. The detention is the subject of appeal to the Dominion Government on the grounds that tho men should be granted special privilege, as they are to be employed in creating a new Canadian plant. Tho immigration authorities are informed that another party of sixteen is to be sent out. Local Labour leaders are investigating the ease, and may make adverse representations to Ottawa.
