NEW ALPINE TRAVERSE.— View taken from the'summit of Mi. Moltke, shoiving the upper portion of the traverse of the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, via Newton Pass, which is being opened up for tourist liaffic next season by the erection of two huts en route. The picture shoivs the neve at the head of "The Franz" on the left and that of "The Fox" on the right, with the snow field of Mt. Roon — portion of the Kaiser Fritz Range running up to the Divide—in the centre. The Great Ice-Fall' of "The Franz" is seen commencing on the left, and to the left of that again portion of the Aimer Ridge. From there the route proceeds in front of the Mackay Rocks, in the snow fields well up on the left, round the back of the Tusk, across, the Davis Snoiv field and Neivton Pass, at the back of Roon, down in front of the Pioneer Ridge, the low-lying rocks in the centre of the neve of "The Fox," up on to the Chancellor Ridge, partially snow-covered in the right centre, and down to Wchcka.
