THE COAL SITUATION
SYDNEY, 2 7tli March. The Federal Prime Minister, Mr. J, H. Scullin, has announced that he has docided to invite representatives of the northern colliery owners and Miners' Federation to a conference with him on Saturday regarding the trouble on the northern fields. The proprietors have agreed to attend, but have firmly refused to confer with the men except on terms of the ?Tovember compromise. NoYthem Collieries Association officials have announced that over four thousaud applications have been received for employment in the mines.
