BIG FRAUDS ON SHOPS

(By Telegraph.—Pre69 Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. John Ryan, alias Hamilton, aged (iO, was arrested at Hamilton. He imposed on some of the largest firms in Auckland, obtaining nearly £400 in goods and money by valueless cheques. He pleaded guilty at the Police Court today to nine charges of false pretences. Ryan had £79 when arrested on some other charges. He was dealt with in the country Courts. Chief-Detective Hammond said that most of the clothing the accused got by fraud was thrown into the harbour. Ho said that he did not want it. Mr. I<\ K. Hunt, S.M., said that the aeeused had written him a letter from gaol. Ho would read this and remand I Eyan till to-morrow for sentence.
