ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING
PAST YEAR REVIEWED
The annual meeting of the Wellington Football Association was held last evening, Mr. J- J- Roberts presiding. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Roberts congratulated the association on its progress, and the Management Committee on its excellent work. The code had been favoured by the City Council as regards grounds, but not unduly so, considering the association's fine work among the boys. Hopes were entertained that the association would have the use of the Basin Reserve again this year. No objection was made to the charges made for the Basin Reserve, as thus only could the council keep all its outlying grounds in order. He said that Wellington was in an exceptionally strong position in comparison with other centres in Association football. The quality of the football played by some of the younger players was well up to the mark. Outstanding work had been done by the Management Committee. Wellington had ■ not been successful in representative Association matches, but had put up an excellent' fight. Special reference was made to Mr. M'Veau's play-as goalkeeper in these matches. V.M.C.A. went to Auckland in search of the Chatham Cup, but the Auckland team, Tramways, proved too good for the local players.' Eulogistic reference to' the services of Mr". :W, Duncan, whp'. retired last. year after" many years' service as treasurer, was made. Mi-. J. Kean' had ably taken Mr. Duncan's place. - Mr. W. B. .Hicks was commended, for the manner in which he had carried out his duties as sole selector. Regret' was expressed at the departure of Mi- W. Thomas for Melbourne. Mr. Thomas had been a New Zealand representative player, and had shown great in'isrest in football. NO AUSTRALIAN TOUR. Mr. Roberts referred to tlie report that an Australian tour was not likely to take place this year..' He was afraid that the Australian" Association had not handled the matter in the best manner possible. The growth of professionalism had led to. conflict between.the governing bodies in Australia,' and he thought that this conflict of opinion had affected the prospects of the proposed tour. It was unfortunate, for -many.'players; .had been looking forward to the trip. .'•■"• ■ Mr.. W. B. Hicks, who seconded ; . the motion of. adoption, referred to the excellent work of referee's and coaches..!,., ELECTION OF OFFICERS; The election of officers resulted, as fol-' lows:—Patron, His Excellency the Gover-nor-General; president, Mr. J.
