VALUED AT MILLIONS
FIGURES SUMMARISED
According to the animal report presented to last night's meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board, the total value of• all overseas exports from the Port of Wellington for the year ended 30th September; 1929, was £14,677,54.9, as, compared with £15,345,019, a decrease of. £667,470.
The principal exports were:—Wool, 4,167,323; cheese, 3,089,030; butter 2,261,228; frozen meat, 1,856,479; skins and hides, 732,113; apples, 410,303; casings, 247,074; hemp and tpwj 215,309; tallow, 145,468: live stock, 87,642; coal, 81,599; casein, 62,046; seeds, 32,995; other exports (including specie), 1,287,9.40. ' • The value of all goods imported during the financial year: was £16,573,----862, compared with- £14,956,768 for the previous year, an increase of £1,----617,094: . :;■'/: ' ■ .' The imports were from, the following countries; United Kingdom, . £7,547,----780; United States, £4,062,811; Canada, £1,781,086; Australia,- £1,278,----633; Dutch East' Indies, £317,294; Japan, £299,182; Germany, £224,001; France, £185,981; Ceylon, £115,649; India, £98,018; Belgium, £88,536; Switzerland, '• £80,818;- Netherlands, £79,664; Sweden, £67,714; Italy, £62,598; South Africa, £38,121; other British Possessions, £91,057; other Foreign countries, £154,919. • • The total value' of New Zealand imports for twelve months ' ended 30th December, 1929, was £48,199,185 so that the value of the import trade of Wellington was over one third of tho total trade of the Dominion. ,
*The value of our imports from the United Kingdom increased by only £125,412. . From United States thero was an increase of no less than £937,----751. Imports from Australia decreased i" value by £71,503, while those from Japan, were £57,9 iS less. Trade with Germany increased by £44,635, while imports from France and Be.U gium showed a decrease. : There was.a decrease in the valuo of exports last year and so far as can be judged at the present" time, the re\>ort remarks, there. ViU be a. further decrease this "year, so that it. is quite ■ unlikely; that the present position in regard to'imports will be maintained and. that a large falling off in our import trade may be anticipated. ;
