\ SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. ■ While pressure has been rising over New Zealand it has remained . rather low in the vicinity of the Chatham . Islands and, consequently, the gradient has been fairly steep to Iho east. This has accounted for strong southerly winds at places, more especially on the cast coast of ;the. South Island and north of Auckland. The Weather has been changeable, cloudy and clean skies alternating, and in most districts occasional light scattered showers have been reported. At 9 a.m. to-day it was still showery In the northern and southern' extremities of the Dominion, but was mainly fine elsewhere. Temperatures hare been cold, and some frosts were registered last night in the South. Island and in Hid central region of the North. ' •
