BIG RUGBY TOUR

BRITISH TEAM'S VISIT

NEW ZEALAND TRIALS

A HEAVY SEASON

The British Kugby team for Now Zealand will leave England by the Eangitata on 11th April, and is due to arrive in Wellington about 14th May, by which time club football in the Dominion should be well under way. It is proposed that the trials to find New Zealand's Test team shall be commenced on the day the British team is due to reach Wellington, but there is a possibility of the arrangement regarding trial matches being reviewed, along with other matters connected with the British team's tour, when the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union take's place on 10th April. The plan of -campaign which the. Management Committee of the New Zoaland Kugby Union has mapped out for the purpose of finding New Zealand's best talent includes the playing of the following trial matches: 14th May, North Island Possibles v. Probables, at Palmerston North; 28th May, South Island Possibles v. Probables, at Christchurch; 11th June, New Zealand Possibles v. Probables, at Wellington. The first Test will be played on 21st June, at Dunedin. . The British team will play three matches in Wellington; the first with. Wellington's representatives, the second with the Maoris, and the third with New Zealand's ' representatives (the fourth '-'e'st). , • . : CALLS UPON PLAYERS. With all the British team's matches, the usual big list of interprovineial fixtures' (including ■ Banfury Shield games), the! trials, the inter-Island match (if it takes place this year), and the club and other games, the coming season promises to-be one of the heaviest on record. The calls, upon the players will be many, and this is_ a matter which will require very careful consideration. It is very desirable that for. the Tests New Zealand should have its strongest side, and to this end arrangements should be made so that the players who are required will not be affected in the matter of getting leave to take part in the important engagements. ' . . '«■ With regard to the coming season the following appears in the annual report of the New Zeala-nd Rugby Union:— "Your committee looks forward with confidence to the 1930 'season as promising to be one of the most memorable in the history of Kugby in this country. That our visitors will receive the warmest welcome everywhere is assured; that they will be favoured with good health, pleasurable games, and a, freedom of injury is the fervent wish of everybody in this country. No -stone has1 been left unturned by your committee to' make for the comfort and enjoyment of the team during its travels, and the public of New Zealand may be relied upon to do %ho rest. Your committee trust, too, that the high standard of our game, and above all the good spirit in which it is played right throughout the Dominion, will bo maintained and strengthened."
