WAR BELIEF ASSOCIATION
The monthly meeting of the War Relief Association of Wellington was held at midday to-day, Mr..C. M. Luke presiding. The other members present were Messrs. Clement "Watson, Alex. Macintosh, and A. O. Leach (secretary). Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. G. Mitchell and G. Shirteliffe. The report of. the Aplications Committee showed thr.t 207 applications had been received during the past month, fourteen of which were from men who had not previously approached the committee. Fifty-five of the claims wero dealt with by the Emergency Committee, and 152 by tho Applications Committee, and there are 68 still under consideration. The total number of" persons who called at the offiec during tho month was 220, of whom 144 applied for direct and 7C for indirect assistance. The Finance- Committee dealt with 11 applications for assistance by way of loans. The expenditure for tho month (£.425 16s 4d), exceeded the income by £.257 19s 3d. The total available funds as at 2_th February last were "£22,447 5s od —investments, £22,200; current accounts, £217 5s sd; cash- in hand, £30. Accounts amounting to £164 15s 4d were passed for payment. .
