SPEEDWAY CONTESTS

BIG EVENT TO-MORROW.

With four of Australia's leading broadsidcrs taking part and, a very strong New Zealand representation, including the champion, there'should be performances of an outstanding order at the Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway to-morrow night. One of the big features of the meeting will be the contest for the golden helmet, at present held by W. Kilmister. The four Australians—C. Spinks (holder of the record from a flying start), A. Mann, R. Blake, and E. Whittle—•will be among those challenging for the helmet, and also in search of the trophy will be T. Wilkinson, E. Naylor, W. B. Harvie, and C. Tohks. All these riders, with the holder, make up the strongest field that has ever competed for the regalia of the chain-" pions, and there can be no doubt that the racing in this event alone will be very thrilling and spectacular. It is generally regarded that Spinks and Kilmister will be the greatest rivals, to supremacy, but there is always the possibility of a surprise being sprung, and the others will keep the two, who have had many a thrilling duel, moving at their best. In addition to this big event, in which the winner of each heat will contest the final, there will be numerous other contests, and in these, too, there should be any amount of exciting incident. By way of variety, a race will take place between riders on "bucking broncho" machines, and this should be very entertaining, especially as the'competitors are determined to break the record for the particular type of machine. Other special announcements regarding the meeting are made elsewhere in this ■ issue, with information concerning the booking, of seats.
