BOWLING
CHAMPION PAIRS
WON BY EASTBOURNE
The final of tho Wellington Bowling Centre's champion of champions pairs competition, played on tho Wellington Club's green yesterday afternoon, was won by Eastbourne (Johns and Rcndle) who defeated-Newtown (Webster and Levestam) by 24 to 19 after a very fine exhibition. The green was in perfect order and the playing conditions were ideal. 'A good "bank" of spectators was interested throughout the game. Mr. J. Webb was umpire. Eastbourne scored 4 on the first head and kept in front for the remainder of tho game. After the sixth head^ the score was Eastbourne 14, Newtown. 2. Levestam played, some splendid drawing shots when the position seemed to be hopelessly against him, and at tho seventeenth head was only 3 points behind Rendle. Eastbourne scored singles on each of the three following heads, and Newtown~l on the last, the final score being Eastbourne 24; Newtown 19. It was largely due to Eendle 's excellent drawing in the concluding stages of the game that victory went his way. The win was popular, and tho Newtown pair were also congratulated. At the conclusion of the game, Mr. H. Mayer (president of the centre) extended the congratulations of all present to the winners, who, he said, had played a splendid game. . It was a grea!t game to watch, and every bowler' engaged had played bowls of a very high order. The Eastbourne Club had now; won championships on four occasions, and it was very creditable to that club. _ Cheers were given both for the winners and tho runners-upi
