IMMIGRANT'S FAILURE
On nineteen charges of theft, involving £78 and miscellaneous property, Godfrey Ernost Parmentcr, a labourer, aged 19, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday i for sentence.
With one exception, all the thefts were from rooms in hotels, stated Chief-Detective Lopdell. The youth had come out to New Zealand under an immigration scheme, and the Immigration Department was moving in the direction of arranging for his return to England. Since Jio arrived in the Dominion, ho had been reported upon very unfavourably, particularly in the New Plymouth district, where, after being befriended by various people, he had rewarded their kindness by ingratitude and in some cases theft.
The proposal to send the youth back to the Old Country was considered by the Magistrate to be the best solution of tho matter. If arrangements could be made to return him, he said, ho would put no difficulty in the way.
A further remand for a week was granted.
