PLIGHT IN QUARANTINE

AORANGI'S PASSENGERS

FEDERAL INQUIRY ORDERED

(Eeceived 7th March, 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, 6th March. The .Federal Minister of Health has ordered an inquiry into the complaints by the Aorangi's. passengers concerning the conditions in quarantine. With the Aorangi's 'departure for Vancouver only stewards and cooks were picked up from quarantine to-day. It was originally intended to take aboard members of the crew held in quarantine, but the unions made this impracticable. Under the seamen's rules an overseas ship cannot leave the wharf without a full complement of firemen and seamen. The result was that thirty-two seamen and twentyfour firemen were signed on for this trip, while those in quarantine will require to wait until the next trip for their old jobs.
