BANK SHARE SALES

"Evening Post," 7th March. Business on the Stock Exchanges of the Dominion hus been fairly active during the week, namely, in the bank share market, but prices keep at comparatively low levels in almost every department. Government and local body loans wcre-in but moderate-demand. The following business was notified:— iYz per cent. Stock, 1938, £98, £07 17a Gd; 4 J/ 2 per cent. Stock, 1939, £9S 10s; 5% per cent. Stock, 1933, £99 ss, £99 2s (3d; 5% per cent. Stock, 193G, £99 2s 6d. For local body issues there were inquirers for 4M per cent, and 5% per cent. Wellington Harbour Boards, 1946, at £83 7s 6d and £97 10s respectively, sellers of the latter quoting £98 2s Cd.. Sales effected during the week were:—6 per cent. Mount Albert Borough, 1959, £102; 5% per cent. Hastings Borough, 1948, £100. Company debentures did not appear in the sales, but there were inquiries for 8 per cent. Insurance shares were very quiet, buyers of Nationals offering Us, no sellers; Queensland.holders Quoted 525, no buyers; South British were in demand at GOs, sellers 61s; A.P.A.'s were quoted by sellers at 7s; Standards could have been bought for 61s, buyers silent. Sales were made of New Zea'lands at 43s 9d and 43s 6d. In financial and stock and station shares there was a fair turnover of Goldsbroughs, and the following is the record of sales showing a'downward tendency:—Dalgety, £11 10s, £11 9s; Loan and Mercantile (ord.), £100; Dalgety (Melbourne register), £11 16s 4%d; Goldsbrough Mort., 325, 31s Bd, 31s lOd, 31s Gd, 31s Id, 30s lid, 31s, 30s lOd; United Building, 15s 3d, 15s 2d, 15s; Wellington Investment, T. and A., 11s Id; New Zealand Guarantee Corporation (8s), 8s Id. COAL, GAS, SHIPPING. . Coal mines were very quiet, with sales of Westports at 30s Gd and Hikurangis at Is 9d, as representative of all declared sales. Gas shares were not in strong demand, but buyers of Wellington ordinaries raised their bids from 27s to 29s and to 29s 9d to-day. Bidders for the preference shares in this company quoted 17s. Sales-recorded during the week I were: Auckland Gas, 23s Gd and 17s for the I contributing shares; Christchurch Gas, 265. Shipping continues very quiet, with buyers of Union Steam Ship preference at 20s, and sellers of P; and O. deferred at 52s Gd; Huddart, Parker preference sold at 20s Gd, buyers of the ordinary offering 26s Gd, no sellers. Meat shares were quiet, but buyers of Wellington Meat Export offered 7s in vain. Sales were as follow:—New Zealand Refrigerating (10s), 6s and £1) 12s; Gear Meat, 38s 3d, 37s 9d, 38s 3d. OTHER SHARES. Breweries are quieter on the week, but several parcels have changed hands as follows:—New Zealand Breweries, 82s, 81s 9d, 82s, 81s 6d, 81s, 80s 9d, 81s: Staples, 48s, 47s 6d; Tooths, 30s 3d; Monteiths, 9s 9d; White Star 15s 9d. Timbers are dull, but buyers of Kauris would pay 13s, sellers 15s. Sales made: Ley land-O'Brien, 28s 6d, 28s 3d, 28s Od; National, 8s Gd. - - ' Other sales notified during the week were as follow: —British Tobacco, 42s 3d, 42s- 2d, 425, 41s 9d, 41s Sd, 41s 6d, 41s 9d, «s 3d, 40s 7%d, 41s 2d, 41s Id, 41s 3d; Booth, Macdouald (pref), 7s 6d; Colonial Sugar, £43 12s Gd, £44; Electrolytic Zinc, 27s lffd, 27s Gd, 27s lOd, 28s 3d, 27s Bd, (pref., ex. div.) 26s 9d; Farmers' Trading (Auckland), 8s 7d; New Zealand Paper Mills, 20s, 19s Gd; Wilson's Cement, 38s 6d,, 395, 38s 6d, 3Ss 9d. - ' MINING SALES.
