■ » • — SENTENCES TOO LIGHT RAIDS BY LORRIES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUI^JEDIN, This Day. It was stated at the poultrymen's conference to-day that the theft of poultry was an organised business in the North, raids being made with lorries. Cases were cited in Auckland and Christchurch where 500 and 400 pullets had been stolen in one night. Wellington also suffered, but Dunedin reported that its poultry losses occurred during railway transit. The conference resolved to draw the attention of the Minister of Justice to the lightness of the sentences imposed on poultry thieves, and also to ask the Minister of Railways to act in regard to thefts from trains. It was resolved that the Government be asked to find finance for a trial shipment of dead poultry for London. A recommendation was carried that the Government bo asked to send Mr. Brown, Chief Poultry Instructor, to the world congress at London. The Government had advised that Mr. Brown would not be sent, and the association decided that a committee be appointed in each centre to raise funds to send him and also voted £25 for the purpose, the Government to be asked to subsidise the total amount collected. Officers were elected as follows:— President, Mr. G. S. Bates (Wellington); vice-president, Mr. H. Williams (Christchurch) \ executive, Messrs. Kdgley (Auckland), Button, and Williams (Otago); deputies, Messrs. Batten (Wellington), Evans (Auckland), Craig (Christchurch), Christie (Dunedin).
