GANDHI'S CAMPAIGN

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

ULTIMATUM TO VICEROY

(Eeceivea 7th March, 11 a.m.)

DELHI, 6th March,

Gandhi states that while he is ready; to compromise with the Viceroy, unless a favourable reply to the ultimatum is received by Tuesday the campaign of civil disobedience will commence. He personally will lead the first batch of volunteers, consisting of men disciples from his settlement at Ahmedabad, who will march to the sea coast. He refused to take women disciples, saying that it would be a cowardly action to place them in the forefront of the battle, knowing that Englishmen would never harm them.
