AUCKLAND GROWERS ALARMED

(By Telegraph.) (Sjiecial to "The Evening- Post.") •AUCKLAND, This Day. . The introduction of. a higher tariff in the United States for imported onions is viewed with concern by Auckland growers. The duty on New Zealand onions imported'into tho United States is now equivalent to £0 4s a ton. The new tariff, it is stated, is prohibitive to New Zealand exporters and witli 'local markets glutted with onions there is little prospect of a successful year for growers. Several largo shipments of onions were sent from Auckland to the United States last year. Now Zealand tariffs for imported onions are £,1 a ton for British imports, and £1 10s a ton for foreign.
