PUBLIC FAVOURS TARDIEU
APPROACHING SOCIALISTS
PARIS, 24th February.
Public opinion is strongly in favour of M. Tardieu,:but his acceptance of the task of forming a Ministry 'was only made after M. Poincare's offer to help him form a strong Ministry.
M. Tardieu is making supreme efforts to induce tho Radical.Socialists to accept four or five seats in tho Cabinet. If he succeeds he will be able to rule tho Chamber indefinitely. If he has to fall back solely on his former supporters from the. Right Centre parties, he will only have the narrowest majority. Undoubtedly tho country desires a combination of the Centre parties as a guarantee against a further crisis. The rapid succession, of crises has had a sobering effect on polities, and it is realised that stability is necessary to France's prestige abroad.
