Australian. National Airways is confident that its night service between Sydney and Melbourne, to bo launched in about tlireo months, will be- as successful as its day service lately inaugurated between Sydney and Brisbane. Special night flying equipment is now on its way out. In observance of mail contract timetabled, the massive Avro-Fokker 'planes, specially fitted with landing lights, will leave Sydney about 7 p.m. and arrivo in Melbourne about midnight, on non-stop flights, this means in the annihilation of'time and spaco can easily bo realised. Tho air mail between Sydney and Brisbane has been operating daily since Ist January. The liners hop-off from Mascot, the* Sydney airport, for Brisbane with such businesslike'punetuality each morning, and pass over the North Shore on their way north with such clock-like regularity, "that thousands of people now set their time, by them for their- departure to work by ferry or by tram. The roar of the engines overhead, at almost the same minute and the same spot, each morning indicates the time more faithfully than many of the clocks. ■ ■-.'■■• An active campaign for the destruction of hawks is carried on by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, which pays a bonus for hawks' feet. Pairs of hawks' feet ,totalling_ 10,548 were paid for by the society during the 'past year, according to a report made by the secretary 'to the meeting of the 'council, states tho "New Zealand Herald."_ It was decided to continue thq'bonus, " : . ■
