Sir, —Could you give me any information about a flood which took place in the Hutt in 1858, in which there were a number of people drowned. As an old subscriber to; your paper I would like to know the date on which the flood occurred. —I am, etc.,

[On 18th January, 1858, one of the most disastrous floods in the history of the Hutt Valley swept through the whole district, upper as well as lower. At Silverstream thirteen people were drowned, seven of them being children. In the lower valley there was no loss of life, but the bridges over the Waiwetu aW Second Kivers were swept away. Half of the Hutt Bridge was swept away.]
