NEW ZEALAND'S PART

ASSISTANCE ACKNOWLEDGED

New Zealand representation at the Empire Games, to be held at Hamilton, Canada, in August, was considered by representatives of sports bodies at a meeting held last, night. Mr, L. A. Tracy (amateur athletics) was in the chair, and others present'wore: Messrs. A. D. Bayfiold and fl. Paton (rowing), OK Aldridge (boxing), P. Coira and N. ■M'Cartncy (swimming), and H. Amos (amateur athletics).

The discussions which took place in London after the Olympic Games on the question of holding Empire Games were outlined by Mr. Amos, and ho also supplied information as to the proposals which had been made regarding the oveiiEs,1 representation, and the accommodation of tho athletes.

The generous offer froni Canada of 5000 dollars to assist New Zealand in sending a team was accepted, and it was decided ihat everything possible should be done to send, a fully'representative team to the Empire Games. The1 claims of rowing wer.e dealt with at some- length, and it was tho feeling of. the meeting that a rowing eight should be sent to Canada. New Zealand representation, howovcr, would not be confined to rowing.

With regard to the control of the movement to send a team, it was decided that a special committee be formed, and Mr. Tracy was appointed .actingchairman, and. Mr. M'Oartney actingsecretary. . ,

Further information regarding the events to be docided at tho Games was being awaited from Mr. Robinson, of Canada, and whon that came to hand tho committee would be in a better position to determine the extont ■of New Zealand's representation. -; - • . ■
