SHARK CAUGHT
(By Telegraph.) , (Special tj "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. _ A species of ground shark, 9ft lOia long, and weighing 3S4:lb, was caught by two Auoklanders, Messrs. C. F. Fowider and E. T. Marshall, from a small boat at Island Bay, Birkdale, on Friday afternoon. A well-known fishing ground in the bay had been deserted for over a week, and the two fishermen" came to tho conclusion that it was a shark that. was driving the snapper away, so they set out to hook it- To a heary piece <tl rope tha/ fastened an empty kerosene tin made airtight to act as a float, and they went out in a 14-foot dinghy to the fishing ground. They used a big shark hook, with a fraee of brass chain baited with half a large kahawai, which the shark seized the moment it had sunk out.of sight. The big fish fought hard for an hour, but was gradually driven shoreward, having the very buoyant kerosene tin to contend with. Sunning the dinghy aground, the men carried the line lip the beach, and then quickly dispatched theshark^^^___
