HUTT AND MIDLAND.
. Midland spent most of the afternoon at thc'Hutt Recreation Ground in replying to Hutt's first inuings' score o£ 252. Without the services of Baker, the city team was dismissed for total of 200, Hutt-thus winning comfortably on the first innings. Midland began very poorly and but for a good showing by the "tail of the team would have been very much outclassed. Bryant, Done'ghue, Roberts, Allardyce, and Tindall were all dismissed for trifling scores, the 'sixth wicket {alHug- for 47 runs, Lawton was better, making 41 before he was run out, but it was not until the advent of Clarke that things really brightened. Clarke, playing steadily and enterprisingly, ran up to 69, at which score- he snicked the ball into the waiting hands of Biggar. Standidge contributed a useful 23 and Hester 19 not out. Cleverly, last man in, went out lbw for a "duck," with the totalat 200. The innings generally was not inspiring, and but for Lawton and Clarke would have been a debacle. Hutt followed on with their second innings, and Biggar and Ross, in reckless mood, knocked up 87 in a little over an hour before stumps were drawn. Details are:— HUTT. .
