OTACO ATHLETICS

(Special to "The Evening Post.") DUNBDIN, Ist February. L. C. M'Lachlau, the' New Zealand halfmile champion', has had invitations to compete at Christchmeh and against Dr. Otto Peltzer at Wellington, but he will be unable to make the trip. He is not far enough forward in his training ,for big i.ping, but should be in good fettle for the Otago championships a month hence. He won the Civil Service Club's half-mile championship nicely during the week, but his time was slow. He may have opposition at the Otago meeting, as C. JVI. Olsen, a former New Zealand champion, is reported to be returning to Dunedffi and to have serious intentions of taking the game up again. Recently B. Provo cleared 10ft 6m m the pole vault at" the local meeting, and on present form looks to have a royal chance of being placed in the New Zealand championship. Early in the week he cleared 10ft Bin, and twice since he has done lift. There are those here who suggest that the New Zealand record is not beyond him. Bert Geddes, the Otago Bprint champion, who was third in the Hst New Zealand 100 yards championship, will definitely riofcVcompete at the provincial championships.: He is spelling for a season.:
